scotch mist...

one of the traits of scottish east coast weather is a mist we call sea harr...
when cold sea air meets warmer air on the coast sometimes a mist blows in along the coast...a bit like cloud in mountains...it can be really thick sometimes with visability down to 10-20 yards ...while it can be like this on the coast 20-30 miles inland is blue skys and a warm day...but i love it when we get sea harr...the cool fresh air in your lungs is great for cycling and in thick mist a mile of beach feels like several...
sunday morning dawned glorious and clear so i went a walk with hanneke but by 10am a harr began to drift in and out on the coast down at tyningham...the pictures dont show it too well but i did a film where you can see it...alot of driftwood is gone along the tideline after the recent storm...as is some of the coast itself...

the rocks of st baldreds cradle looked a bit earie in the mist...

up above the coastline we walked along the secret trail...well its not really secret more hidden and often missed to visitors esp once the leaves are on the trees...

there are 2 ruins of WW2 coastal defences nearby...a machine gun pillbox and lookout station...

once up above the cliffs at ravensheugh the harr broke up within 5 minutes to a lovely warm clear day...

here`s some film from today...

  4. Hey bro - spooky mist - I think it is haar - bet there is a similar Dutch word, if you ask... but I suspect it comes from an old Norse word. Nice pics! reminds em of the summer holiday we had when we were kids when we had bloody haar every day for about 4 weeks of the holiday! Very East coast...
